LA ROSE JAUNE
La rose jaune – Création théâtrale

Created in 2014 for the Avignon Festival, The Yellow Rose by Isabelle Bournat is a theatrical work for five performers, brought to life through music, dance, and visual imagery. The project emerged from a desire to bring different art forms together around the notion of breath, a theme developed by choreographer Michel Raji. The audience is invited into a universe where theatrical, sonic, and visual dimensions unfold simultaneously.
The play opens with an everyday scene: at a café terrace, a couple’s relationship begins to unravel. Célie, a physician, is troubled by the excesses of techno-medical progress and questions what it truly means to be human. She projects her anxieties onto her husband until she encounters Théo, a homeless outsider who sells roses on the street.
A figure of freedom, Théo embodies a simple yet profound faith in life. His itinerant existence—from theatre to theatre—opens up a realm of possibilities where performance and lived experience intertwine, blurring the boundaries between reality and dream, matter and spirit. Through this character, the play explores the vital presence that runs through the world: the same breath can be found in the taste of wine, the beauty of a face, and the endless cycle of days and nights. t is a philosophy of breath, presence, and attentiveness, echoing these words by Angelus Silesius: “The rose is without a why; it blooms because it blooms. It cares not for itself, nor asks: am I being seen?”
